AKC Limited and Full Registration
ALL MY PUPS BOUGHT WITH LIMITED REGISTRATION CAN COMPETE IN ALL AKC/UKC FIELD EVENTS!
****Any person wanting FULL REGISTRATION with a AKS puppy must notify us before placing a holding fee on a puppy, as it’s MORE in cost for this option for a puppy****
Limited Registration*
All AKS pups come with AKC Registration paperwork to be filled out & register by new owner using the AKS’s prefix in the registration name.
Limited Registration means that the dog is registered but no litters produced by that dog are eligible for registration. The dog can compete in every AKC event, including obedience, tracking, field trials, hunt tests, and agility, except for breed competition, at a licensed or member event.
Full registration is for breeding purposes, which means their offspring can be registered.
Why would a breeder specify a limited registration for a puppy?
Simply put to protect the puppy and to try to prevent genetic problems in our breed,
It is sort of an insurance to the breeder!
Puppy mills will often buy puppies with the intent of breeding them as soon as possible. Some owners of puppy mills will even hire young couples to pose as puppy buyers in order to get past screening by breeders, then the puppy is transferred to the puppy mill. In order to keep their costs down, a puppy mill will breed a dog early and often. They won’t test for genetic problems. They don’t screen their buyers (except to make sure the buyer has sufficient cash available). They take few (if any) precautions to prevent disease in their dogs.
We sell 95% of our puppies with limited registration as most of my clients want a QUALITY pet, gun dog etc; with zero intentions of breeding, this is why I have two prices on my pups.
This also makes them less appealing to puppy mills – a puppy whose offspring can’t be registered isn’t as valuable to them again It is sort of an insurance to the breeder.
Limited registration also helps to prevent genetic problems by preventing the breeding of dogs who haven’t been checked for these problems. Well, it doesn’t actually prevent the breeding, just the registration of any offspring. Few owners will go to the expense of breeding their registered dog, if the offspring can’t be registered.
What if I later decide I'd like to breed the dog?
Limited Registration is reversible. If the puppy grows up to be potential breeding stock that would improve the bloodlines of the breed, the breeder can submit a form to the American Kennel Club to have the limitation reversed, with a fee paid to the breeder to reverse it to Full Registration.
See below.
AKS Water-bound Retriever's minimum requirements to have a limited registration reversed:
The DOG is a minimum of 24 months of age and the below health clearances have been done with passing scores, copies must be sent to me before Limited Registration is reversed.
The dog's eyes are cleared of genetic problems by a Board-Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist, and can get a CERF number.
The dog's hips & elbows are certified clear of canine hip/elbow dysplasia by the (OFA). https://www.ofa.org/
The dog is tested and found clear of Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM) and Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), or if a carrier of (EIC) will not be bred to another carrier. *** If the parents of the puppy are already clear of CNM & EIC these two tests are not necessary.***
We recommended the Labrador Retriever Panel done on all breeding stock.
AKS's or AKS prefix is used some where in the AKC registered name, if not, Limited will NOT be reversed!
IMPORTANT:
The balance between Limited & Full registration at time of purchase must be paid to the breeder before release of Full Registration this fee is to cover AKC and Breeder Reversal Limited Registration fees. The balance depends on the litter and starts at $550 and UP!
LIMITED REGISTRATION WILL NOT BE REVERSED WITHOUT THE FEE'S PAID IN-FULL, & CLEARED BY CHECK, CASH OR BANK MONEY ORDER, MADE PAYABLE TO AMY AVERY FOR THE BALANCE BETWEEN LIMITED REGISTRATION & FULL REGISTRATION PUPPY PRICE! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
**It is our opinion that a dog that doesn’t pass these basic health checks should not be bred!**
